Add options/slider for timeframe between reviews (like other spaced repetition apps do)

sgurrdearg · 4 · Last reply by BlueRaja

Currently the time between reviews is way too slow to be fully functional for me, too much time elapses and I forget the kanji completely. We need a way to change the speed at which a kanji will come back for review to properly account for brains that function differently.

    Custom learning stages.

Brian in Fukuoka · 1 · Last reply by BlueRaja

A way for the learner to customize which learning stages and in what order. For example, I would like to try this order to see if it suits my learning style:

Stage 1: Full kanji with stroke order.

2: Full kanji without stroke order.

3: First stroke only, without stroke order.

    4: Blank screen.

Allow removal of Kanji from lesson queue

willcs · 4 · Last reply by willcs

I've been following the WaniKani lesson plan and am still quite early on. I just this evening decided to play around with a couple of more advanced Kanji using the Custom Review feature, just to get a feel for how the app handles Kanji that are a little more complicated, but now I find that the Kanji I experimented with are in my lesson queue and I can't seem to be able to get rid of them.

See below, I'm only on the third level of the WaniKani lesson plan, but 蟹, 臓, 鈍, and 何 are now in my

Allow to choose between word prompts and intrinsic-meaning-of-kanji prompts

mathemagier · 1 · Last reply by Soya

I would like an option to prompt the intrinsic meaning of the kanji instead of words it is part of. 'Intrinsic meaning' refers to the words shown after drawing a kanji at the bottom of the screen, i.e. 'study; learning; science' for 学 instead of 'university (2), school(1), student (1)'. This would of course make the hiragana and audio parts of the prompt impossible/unnecassary. The idea behind this is to improve the support for the Remembering the Kanji approach, where the stroke orders and meaning (more precisely a so-called key word) of the kanji are learned separately and pronunciation and combinations

    "Pen only" mode

BlueRaja · 1 · Last reply by BlueRaja

“pen only” mode so I don’t fail just by touching the area with my fingers or palm

I'm not sure if this is possible in Xamarin, but it's worth looking into

Ministry of Education's list of kanjis (Grade 1 to 6)

kanjisanyo · 3 · Last reply by BlueRaja

I'd appreciate if the list from the Japanese education system could be added.

    Full list here:

    https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%AD%A6%E5%B9%B4%E5%88%A5%E6%BC%A2%E5%AD%97%E9%85%8D%E5%BD%93%E8%A1%A8

This is the list from the Ministry of Education, and my kids (attending Japanese hoshuko, in North America) could benifit from this.

I'm happy to format the list into a suitable format, if you could provide an example.

I can also group them into reasonable sublists (~10 per 'lesson').

    Support smaller test area sizes

BlueRaja · 1 · Last reply by BlueRaja

    From this post

on Tab S7 FE the box is still quite big at 25% and since the pen is very precise it could be good to get handwriting to smaller size with this app.

Basic Kanji Book (Bonjinsha) volume 2 word list

Paul Hampson · 2 · Last reply by BlueRaja

Following on from Basic Kanji Book (Bonjinsha) support here's the word list for Basic Kanji Book Volume 2, lessons 23-45 (249 kanji numbered 252 through 500). I don't have the book itself at-hand (I photographed a more-senior student's copy last week and just now typed it out), but I assume it's the 2022 edition, with the list unchanged since the 2015 revision, similar to volume one.

Option to not show trace while drawing

airblaster · 4 · Last reply by BlueRaja

I often find myself irritated and influenced by the traces that appear while drawing lines.

How about an option to not show the trace until the character has been fully drawn and the finger lifted from the screen?

That way it would be easer to tell if you really remembered how to draw the character.

    Basic Kanji Book (Bonjinsha) support

Paul Hampson · 2 · Last reply by BlueRaja

Sorry if this already posted, the name of the book is not exactly search-friendly; "kanji" returns half the support database.

The books being used by my school are https://www.bonjinsha.com/wp/bkb (and probably the Intermediate Kanji Book at a higher level) and it'd be great to have their order supported in this app.

Their app (https://www.bonjinsha.com/wp/bkb#BK02) appears to contain the full word list.
