Nothing to do if user can write all Wanikani kanji

    BlueRaja · 0 · Posted

    1. Start the app fresh for the first time 2. Connect to Wanikani API 3. Claim you can write all kanji that you have caught up in Wanikani. Expected outcome: Able to do something on study screen Actual outcome: Can't do anything, says "come back when there are more reviews".  Not a good first experience.

We should allow them to "review ahead" or something

When system font is "OnePlus Sans", Chinese encoding is used

    BlueRaja · 0 · Posted

Is there a way to detect this?  If so, can it be fixed in-app, or do I need to display a warning (and ask them to fix it themselves)?  Are there other default system fonts this applies to?

    On’yomi words in katakana

When writing Kanji, I would like to see an option to have the on’yomi words in katakana, instead of having everything in hiragana.

    Share menu for Backup export

Nayelianne · 1 · Last reply by BlueRaja

Curently backups are saved in hard to access directories, and involve connecting to a computer to transfer them between devices.

Having an option to export the backup through the device's share menu (like send to mail, send to Telegram, etc, or simply to save the file to a place of your choice) like many other apps do, would make it a lot easier when using multiple devices.

Add a way to save the list of learned kanji on the clipboard

Laynor · 3 · Last reply by BlueRaja

First, would like to thank you for Ringotan, I'm using it daily and it's helping me a lot! Best part is I'm not getting tired of it and I'm keeping my efforts ^^

I use Satori reader, and I want to hide the furigana for the kanji that I learned on Ringotan.

It would be enough to copy the list on the clipboard for further editing maybe in some notepad app.

Another possibility is saving some file in an easily accessible location. In the case of iOS, something that can be accessed with the Files app would be best. But

Option to see our FULL handwriting while drawing

    Nayelianne · 0 · Posted

I'm not sure if it's a bug but currently even with the snap feature disabled our own line is visually replaced at every stroke, rather than only when we go off the mark. Worst of all, after getting it correctly there's no way to compare our own full written character to what the correct one was (seeing an animation of the original vs your drawing can be quite eye opening).

So what's been happening is that some times I have the feeling I'm not being totally accurate but can't really tell because as soon as I lift my pencil my

    Indicate desired kanji via audio

    Gediko · 0 · Posted

I think altering the initial auto-pronunciation to {word} の {kanji}    e.g.  「べんり」の「り」   would be much more helpful than just sounding the word itself.

    Reason being:

When words with multiple kanji come up, you can't tell from the initial audio which part is being taught / asked for.

I think this is helping to cause false associations - e.g. having to write 便 or 利 after hearing べんり makes the two kanjis' readings more difficult to keep separate and therefore easier to confuse. It also negates many of the advantages of the audio when you always need to look at the

    add kanji-dictionary lookup

    Jacques D. · 0 · Posted

Hi! I wonder if it would be possible to add a menu option: search in dictionary It would link to external websites or to existing apps on the android device

For example, "Japanese Kanji Study" is a very detailed app. And it would really be great if it can be opened at the right page for the kanji we are studying with ringotan. When we are learning a kanji, we could click on "additional lookup" and click on one option: - jisho.org - kanji koohii - weblio.jp - kanji study app (if installed) - ...

Not sure if kanjivg supports these, but could just add the most common ones manually

Add explanation screen after selecting 'no resource' in setup wizard

Something like "While Ringotan can be used on its own, it works best as a supplementary resource alongside something like Wanikani or Genki"

    Sometimes wrong definition is remembered

    BlueRaja · 0 · Posted

Definition for 裕 was set to 富裕 but I never set it to that. I got it wrong the first time, but then right after that. I had set it to the correct definition (can't remember if I did that immediately or on the retry), but when it came up for the last time it was the wrong definition again.

    Support for Custom Kanji Decks

Alden Geipel · 1 · Last reply by BlueRaja

Please consider adding an option to add custom kanji decks rather than only providing the preset decks to study from. I would like to be able to export kanji learned through jpdb.io through their api and be able to study them in Ringotan. Ideally, this import would be done automatically by interfacing with a Ringotan api but any functionality for custom decks would be extremely useful. If there isn't a planned api for Ringotan, a simple interface where the user would paste all kanji to be included in the custom deck would work. Alternatively, Ringotan could read from a text

Can’t practice dakuon / other hiragana characters

I can practice the base 46 hiragana but it would be really helpful to be able to practice the other dakuon/yoon as well (for sounds like cha, pa, gu etc)

Show user handwriting on top of the example after completing a question

    Anon User · 0 · Posted

Sometimes it's really hard to tell if your completed answer has any small visual mistakes, even if you've successfully passed the question. (Optionally) showing the completed user kanji drawing after a successful question would really help with improving the last few inaccuracies I run into when handwriting.

    Second chance

Gamergod · 1 · Last reply by Gamergod

This is not my idea, this is the idea of someone on the android store. But I thought it was a good idea to mention it, just for completion.

The basic idea is to give the user a second chance for Kanji which are really complicated. Maybe in form of a "Second Chance" button, which the user can activate in the options. Maybe some other method?

    [ios] Ringotan disabling background audio

    BlueRaja · 0 · Posted

According to DynamiteGazelle on Reddit, Ringotan disables music that's playing in the background when it plays audio.  It should not do that.
