Filtering only slightly helps this issue and can become pretty tedious. Additionally, some Kanji might jump from one section to another after a review. To further exacerbate this issue, if I do choose to select one of the large sections with hundreds of Kanji, my phone (iPhone) will often crash after 3-4 hundred, and there is no way for the app to parse those out. 

This app is incredible, and has helped me learn Kanji faster than I ever expected! I couldn’t appreciate it more! However, this has become enough of an issue that I would be happy to pay a good amount to get additional filtering/sorting options. I’ve thought of many ways around this, and one might just be to add custom lengths of time under “Newest First” sort option.

While we are at it, if there was a way to select all kanji under a category, but then randomize the order they are presented for study, the app would be perfect from my perspective.

I noticed however, that when using the "show wrong/actual strokes" button (X on bottom left), only the last drawn stroke of a Kanji is shown. I would like to directly compare all my actual strokes with the "ideal" Kanji to see the deviations

お土産、おみやげ、is this not rather a welcome gift than an unwelcome or unwanted gift? The translation says "unwelcome gift".

At the top of most kanji there's about 6 example words with different readings, which is great but it also means that for each kanji, if I wanted to add all 6 words to anki, I'd at minimum need to swap keyboards like 12 times!

A lot of this could be eased by making the kanji and the hiragana selectable so we can copy the text into the devices clipboard, allowing me to just paste it into Anki directly.

Current sessions, even set to "few" are almost 20 at a time.  I'm having to make mistakes with most of these as I refresh my memory on each of them.

The huge review size is making both the time and frustration for each review batch oppressive, especially if I make two mistakes in a row for any item and get dropped into idiot mode.

Can we get an option for a "Tiny" batch size of 5?  That would make it much for accessible for me to drop in and do a small set when I have a few minutes throughout my day.  20 requires a significant time investment and mental energy if you are making any notable amount of mistakes.

I would like to revive the discussion of this potential feature, as while I understand and appreciate the hesitation from the developer, I still believe it has a lot of value as an optional “advanced mode” for kanji you have already learned to a high degree.

I would like to re-request this one, on the basis that it be an optional mode.

I feel the same as @airblaster, I am being influenced by seeing the strokes being revealed as I draw - I sense that I am being given subtle hints (e.g for the 月 radical, is it full height or should I leave space at the bottom for something else to fit? Does this one include the flick at the bottom or not?). I feel that my own recall is not being fully tested.

I also take the point from @BlueRaja about the auto marking system not being able to handle this kind of Freeform input - so how about allowing us to mark our own answer as correct or not when in this mode? After all, we already have this self-marking feature now - if we feel the auto-marking has been unfair (or too fair!) to us, we can override its decision.

I reiterate, this would be an optional mode, not the default. I agree that the best way to learn initially is the way the app does it now. But as a learner gets more advanced, I think it helps to be able to draw from memory alone.

As a potential implementation detail, I believe this would work best as an additional “review style”.

If we define the other styles as being, in order:

* Faint template with each stroke prompted in order
* Faint template with no prompts
* No template with each stroke prompted in order
* No template with pseudo-random stroke prompted after each correct stroke
* No template and no prompts, but after each correct stroke the blue line is painted in

…then what I’m suggesting would be another review style that would come next:

* No template, no prompts, no blue lines painted in, user submits their own final answer before revealing the template, and user has to judge their answer as correct or not (a bit like Anki).

In this sense, the new style is just a logical progression on from the others. Perhaps it would not appear in your reviews until you had sufficiently mastered it in the “easier” styles.

What I’m trying to say is that I still see value in the existing review styles *in the beginning*. But to take it to the final level of mastery, I would like to see this new review style as a feature.

I know that you can change at will, but (correct me if i am wrong) when I finished my daily study of beginner, even if I switch deck, my lessons to reviews will still be at 0. Meaning that if I want to study the same deck everyday, I can’t go to another one.

I noticed that two kanji are missing in the Minna no Nihongo deck:

1. 読 (Unit 9)

2. 妹 (Unit 19)

Could you please check and add them to the deck?
Also, could you consider adding a deck for Soumatome N3 Kanji?

Even just doing something like sorting the x and y coordinates of the the endpoints of the answer and making sure that the same thing for what the user has drawn so far is a subsequence of that would help a lot!

For this an option to read out multiple words, either all or once for each different reading of the kanji, would be useful. 

But these are years old, and there is some additional things I want to say.

Sometimes when I forget a kanji, I simply tap and drag where I think the nearest stroke starts, and then the snap then reminds me of how to write the kanji in full.

Problem is, this isn't really considered "mastery" of the kanji, since I had to be reminded how to write it via "cheating" using the stroke snapping.

Hence, I think this should be an additional optional final level where this happens, ensuring the user has full memorization of the character.

At the same time, there is a large space at the bottom that is not taken up by the kanji view, nor the definition list, so I thought instead of the definition list being shown horizontally, hidden away by the next/previous arrows, what if, the definitions are placed in cells that is vertically scrollable?

Hopefully, this will make learning to read faster, as multiple examples can be seen a glance, without the added effort of pressing anything.

Besides that, in kanji that are homonyms of other kanji, there is a need to disambiguate by looking at more word definitions, so this will assist in that area.
