[MAUI] See if SVG icons work

    BlueRaja · 0 · Posted

Supposedly they do.  If I can replace all the icons with their SVGs, this would save space + time, and would look better.

    Custom Review - Search All

kaizokunokazoku · 1 · Last reply by BlueRaja

Is there some way to search across all the Kanji supported by Ringotan? I'm trying to find the 旧字体 version of 亀 (龜) which is listed on KanjiVG but I can't seem to find in any of the lesson sources (including JLPT and Kanken)

PS: Absolutely loving Ringotan, thank you so much for making this!

    Better support for Jinmeiyou kanji

    BlueRaja · 0 · Posted

A handful of jinmeiyou kanji aren't used in any actual words (making them not currently supported). And a lot of the ones that are are so rare we shouldn't be using them as prompts.  It'd be better to use names for prompts instead, the way they're actually used.

    Some examples: 燿藥覽偖凭剌哥嗽嘸嚏囀嫋屹掏捩焜犇皰稍窶綽罅聊臘蜀齎跣踉蹌軈閊靨鞦韆飩饂暝

Show own handwriting & Sounds for multiple Readings

    Lasse · 0 · Posted

I have seen others post this idea already, but the more feedback the better, right?

The first idea is that your own handwriting is on the screen. Maybe until you make a mistake or until you complete a kanji. The specifics aren’t that important to me. Just swing your own handwriting until you finish a kanji is what I would absolutely love for the app to have. In my opinion you can’t cheat that way and you feel like you actually did write it all by yourself.

The second idea is that since most kanjis have multiple readings, there could

    Start by Prompting Without Hints

    sanaxoh946 · 1 · Last reply by sanaxoh946

It would be nice to have an option to start by directly prompting a kanji with an empty canvas, and only going through the learning steps if we mess up on the first encounter.

For people that already learnt kanji by recognition (which should be a majority), this would speed up the learning process tremendously, especially for the simpler kanji.

    Don't snap drawing to kanji

Need to figure out a way to do this without a bad user experience. Idea: Add new options for "fail immediately" and "default success state"

    Try out Voicevox

Apparently software that does a better job than Google TTS for pronouncing kanji. I should try it and see if it's a good replacement.

Nothing to do if user can write all Wanikani kanji

    BlueRaja · 0 · Posted

    1. Start the app fresh for the first time 2. Connect to Wanikani API 3. Claim you can write all kanji that you have caught up in Wanikani. Expected outcome: Able to do something on study screen Actual outcome: Can't do anything, says "come back when there are more reviews".  Not a good first experience.

We should allow them to "review ahead" or something

When system font is "OnePlus Sans", Chinese encoding is used

    BlueRaja · 0 · Posted

Is there a way to detect this?  If so, can it be fixed in-app, or do I need to display a warning (and ask them to fix it themselves)?  Are there other default system fonts this applies to?

    On’yomi words in katakana

When writing Kanji, I would like to see an option to have the on’yomi words in katakana, instead of having everything in hiragana.

    Share menu for Backup export

Nayelianne · 1 · Last reply by BlueRaja

Curently backups are saved in hard to access directories, and involve connecting to a computer to transfer them between devices.

Having an option to export the backup through the device's share menu (like send to mail, send to Telegram, etc, or simply to save the file to a place of your choice) like many other apps do, would make it a lot easier when using multiple devices.

Add a way to save the list of learned kanji on the clipboard

Laynor · 3 · Last reply by BlueRaja

First, would like to thank you for Ringotan, I'm using it daily and it's helping me a lot! Best part is I'm not getting tired of it and I'm keeping my efforts ^^

I use Satori reader, and I want to hide the furigana for the kanji that I learned on Ringotan.

It would be enough to copy the list on the clipboard for further editing maybe in some notepad app.

Another possibility is saving some file in an easily accessible location. In the case of iOS, something that can be accessed with the Files app would be best. But

Option to see our FULL handwriting while drawing

    Nayelianne · 0 · Posted

I'm not sure if it's a bug but currently even with the snap feature disabled our own line is visually replaced at every stroke, rather than only when we go off the mark. Worst of all, after getting it correctly there's no way to compare our own full written character to what the correct one was (seeing an animation of the original vs your drawing can be quite eye opening).

So what's been happening is that some times I have the feeling I'm not being totally accurate but can't really tell because as soon as I lift my pencil my

    Indicate desired kanji via audio

    Gediko · 0 · Posted

I think altering the initial auto-pronunciation to {word} の {kanji}    e.g.  「べんり」の「り」   would be much more helpful than just sounding the word itself.

    Reason being:

When words with multiple kanji come up, you can't tell from the initial audio which part is being taught / asked for.

I think this is helping to cause false associations - e.g. having to write 便 or 利 after hearing べんり makes the two kanjis' readings more difficult to keep separate and therefore easier to confuse. It also negates many of the advantages of the audio when you always need to look at the
