Apparently software that does a better job than Google TTS for pronouncing kanji. I should try it and see if it's a good replacement.

Apparently the only crash that's happened in the current version (which is pretty good!), happening to <1% of users.

Stacktrace just says there's a null reference exception

1. Start the app fresh for the first time 2. Connect to Wanikani API 3. Claim you can write all kanji that you have caught up in Wanikani. Expected outcome: Able to do something on study screen Actual outcome: Can't do anything, says "come back when there are more reviews".  Not a good first experience.

We should allow them to "review ahead" or something

Thank you for this app, I find it a really nice complement to my Kanji learning routine :) Anki allows to cap daily reviews, are there any plans to allow ringotan to do the same?

Is there a way to detect this?  If so, can it be fixed in-app, or do I need to display a warning (and ask them to fix it themselves)?  Are there other default system fonts this applies to?

Characters like 直 and 写  get rendered using Chinese font on Android. I have Japanese set as a system language and a japanese key board installed. To resolve all text in app should be explicitly tagged as japanese to prevent defaulting to Chinese encoding.

When writing Kanji, I would like to see an option to have the on’yomi words in katakana, instead of having everything in hiragana.

I think altering the initial auto-pronunciation to {word} の {kanji}    e.g.  「べんり」の「り」   would be much more helpful than just sounding the word itself.

Reason being:

When words with multiple kanji come up, you can't tell from the initial audio which part is being taught / asked for.

I think this is helping to cause false associations - e.g. having to write 便 or 利 after hearing べんり makes the two kanjis' readings more difficult to keep separate and therefore easier to confuse.It also negates many of the advantages of the audio when you always need to look at the

I just picked up this app due to finding a post about it on reddit, looking for something to help me learn the stroke order of kana because I learn best by writing them. Immediately upon starting my first lesson, I got a pop up saying "Tutorial: Hiragana." However, the text was nearly unreadable. It was white on a white background. I thought it might be an issue with my brightness settings etc. and discovered that after turning off dark mode, the text became black and I could read it. This is a temporary fix but I'd like to not

I have a phone with square screen. The initial screen with the tomato, and the study screen for reviews don't show completely. The study screen clearly cuts in half the 'review only' button, but for the tomato screen I'm guessing what is hidden is a custom study button, but I couldn't find a screenshot to compare

For example, "Japanese Kanji Study" is a very detailed app. And it would really be great if it can be opened at the right page for the kanji we are studying with ringotan. When we are learning a kanji, we could click on "additional lookup" and click on one option: - jisho.org - kanji koohii - weblio.jp - kanji study app (if installed) - ...

I'm learning 心 but the app is asking me to draw something else.

Something like "While Ringotan can be used on its own, it works best as a supplementary resource alongside something like Wanikani or Genki"

Hi everyone and thank you for the amazing app. I studied Japanese with the minna no nihongo textbook, the newest edition, and I noticed that in the app, the kanji section related to that book, starting from unit 26, have different kanji (some kanji are in different units, some others are completely missing). So, to sum up, up to unit 25 everything’s perfect, from unit 26 to 50 is kinda of a mess. I have the book in the original paper format, how can I help you to fix it? I’ll gladly do it. Definition for 裕 was set to 富裕 but I never set it to that. I got it wrong the first time, but then right after that. I had set it to the correct definition (can't remember if I did that immediately or on the retry), but when it came up for the last time it was the wrong definition again.
